When a Mt. Juliet family imagined a better backyard, they did not picture a minor upgrade. They pictured a complete transformation, and they found the right Imagine Pools pool builder to make it happen.

Outback Construction, a licensed general contractor and custom home builder based in Lebanon, Tennessee, handles the kind of projects most pool companies cannot. Owner Whit Gammon and his team manage everything from excavation and concrete to landscaping, fencing and full structural builds, all under one roof. It was that single-point-of-contact approach that brought them to this Mt. Juliet property, and what they delivered there is nothing short of remarkable.

the project

The backyard that existed before Outback Construction arrived was modest at best. A small, uncovered concrete patio, a swing set and a hot tub sat on a steeply sloping half-acre lot in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee. There was character in the property, but potential was buried beneath the grade.

Outback Construction saw it differently.

“We like projects that have character,” Gammon said. “Every project presents its own set of challenges.”

This one presented plenty. The lot dropped sharply off the back porch, and a 30-foot setback from the rear property line meant precision planning was essential. Rather than work around those constraints, the team leaned into them by regrading the yard, removing the old concrete and steps, bringing in new dirt and reconfiguring the entire layout so that once the homeowners stepped off the porch, everything opened up into one seamless, level outdoor living space.

The Inspiration backyard pool 35 in Ice Silver

the pool

At the center of it all sits The Inspiration 35 in Ice Silver from Imagine Pools, a pool that looks completely different depending on whether the sun is up or the stars are out.

The multi-tiered water feature runs nine feet in length and cascades in layers down a cultured stone structure that was carefully matched to the stonework on both the existing home and the newly built pool house. Mounted at the top of that structure is a natural gas fire bowl that brings a dramatic, flickering element to the water’s edge. A separate fire pit positioned nearby adds another layer of warmth to the space.

The pool is outfitted with a full salt chlorination system, complete automation and underwater lighting that shifts the mood of the entire backyard after dark. Surrounding the pool, broom-finished concrete with a chiseled stone edge keeps the aesthetic clean and grounded.

“We were a little nervous about the fire bowl,” Gammon said. “But we figured it out, and it turned out great.”

It did more than turn out great. It became the centerpiece of a backyard that now functions as a full outdoor resort.

the pool house

Beyond the pool, Outback Construction built a pool house that left nothing out. The structure includes a large living and hangout area, a full kitchen with an island, a bar room, a full bath and changing area, a drop zone and a pantry. Like the water feature, its exterior is finished in cultured stone that ties the entire property together visually.

The result is a backyard where guests never have to go inside.

built for a family

The homeowners have three boys, and the backyard was designed with that energy in mind. The fact that Outback Construction installed a 400,000 BTU heater on the pool meant the boys were swimming well into December, a detail that speaks to how thoroughly this project was thought through.

Outback Construction exclusively installs Imagine Pools fiberglass pools. For Gammon and his team, adding a pool division to their construction business was a natural extension of what they were already doing for their custom home clients, and this Mt. Juliet project is a strong example of what that combination looks like at its best.

“We transformed that backyard,” Gammon said simply. And looking at the result, it is hard to argue otherwise.
