It is that time of year again, and while this spooky season may have you thinking about what you are going to wear to that highly-anticipated Halloween party, your swimming pool can join in the outlandish fun, too.

Begin the fun by enjoying some of the magic and mystery of the holiday by giving your backyard swimming pool a seasonal vibe to share with family and friends. First of all, we invite you to stop in for a spell and discover some fun and entertaining ways to dress up your swimming pool to make it the life of the party. Next, all it takes is a few fun props and your splashing-good imagination and creativity!  Finally, Just have fun with it!

1. Hocus pocus. Since glow sticks are waterproof, most of them should float and are deemed safe to use in a swimming pool. You can toss several of these into your pool to add that perfect layer of spooky glow. Want to really give your swimming pool a special Halloween glow?  Grab some surgical gloves and put a glow stick in each. Tie the end of the gloves and then drop them in the pool. Amaze and delight as these floating hands give the illusion of some spooky creature being trapped under the water!
2. Pumpkin patch. Fill your pool with floating pumpkins and jack-o-lanterns. Believe it or not, but pumpkins do float in the water as they are buoyant. You can carve out the pumpkins and then place small candles in each to give a special glow to the pool. If you prefer not to use real pumpkins, then check out a local craft or party store and grab some plastic ones that will still give your pool the look you want.
3. Trick or treat yourself. Want to create a foggy, spooky effect?  Get a fog machine and place it poolside to add a creepy effect. Use a plastic light filter over your pool lights (red would be fun) to change the color of your pool water for an added layer of Halloween style and fun.
4. Ghost time. Make no bones about bit! Every skeleton loves having a good time around the pool. Think: bathing ghosts or skeletons floating on an inner tube in the pool. Put sheets on a skeleton for that ghostly-feel or dress up a skeleton in a swimming suit or bikini.  Just have fun with it! (No sunscreen required, either!
5. Zombie party. If you are super ambitious, get a life-size Zombie prop and position it near the steps of the pool, as if it is crawling out of the pool. This should elicit a few shrieks and laughs.
6. If you’ve got it, haunt it! Other ideas to accentuate the overall Halloween appeal of your backyard swimming pool include props such as giant cobwebs, tombstones, witches on brooms, ghosts in cages, and even some soundtracks with various creepy, haunted, and strange noises.
7. Harvest Halloween. For those who prefer a more mellow vibe to the occasion, go for a Harvest look and simply accent the pool area with pumpkins, straw bales, brightly-colored leaves, and more to turn up the autumn charm.
